SAN JOSE, Calif. — Guess who’s back! Fast casual sandwich shop Togo’s has returned to Salinas after more than a decade thanks to longtime brand franchisees and local developers Ehab Youssef and Saravan Rajendran. The store, which is currently open for business, is located at 215 Monterey St. and the grand opening will take place on Saturday, March 14th. The grand opening will feature fun festivities, including a live radio broadcast and $5 famous Pastrami sandwiches between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.&nbsp;Youssef has deep roots in the Salinas area. His family has lived in Salinas since the 1960s and he attended Salinas High School. He left the area to go to college at UC Davis and then to Santa Clara University for law school. He never forgot his Salinas roots, though. Today, he is the Assistant General Counsel at a technology company in Silicon Valley.&nbsp;Youssef originally learned about Togo’s through a client and opened his first store in 2003 in East Palo Alto. At one point, he owned and operated five different Togo’s stores in the region. He still co-owns the store today with Rajendran, who is a vice president at a technology company in Silicon Valley. Youssef and Rajendran are Togo’s brand enthusiasts who are thrilled to bring their favorite sandwich shop back to Youssef’s hometown. Together, they have developed a mixed-use development in downtown Salinas.&nbsp;“I was blown away by the quality of sandwiches and the opportunity to become involved in the franchise system,” Youssef said. “We wanted a high-quality franchise opportunity that distinguished itself from competitors, and it was clear that Togo’s would be successful in the long run. You just can’t beat the quality, freshness or size of the sandwiches.”The upcoming Salinas store will look a bit different from what locals remember, as the brand rolled out the Togo’s 3.0 model in 2019. The remodel features a speed-line style for better customer service and order accuracy as well as improved lighting, an enhanced color scheme and more. Youssef and Rajendran will open another Togo’s in Salinas within the next 12 months. They are actively working with the local Chamber of Commerce, city offices, churches and more to spread the word about their business.“The feedback we are getting from customers is ‘Where have you been?’ and ‘Why has it taken so long?’” Youssef said. “This new Togo’s location is long overdue, and Saravan and I are ready to provide customers with a delicious experience they can enjoy for years to come.”The Togo’s leadership team is happy with Youssef and Rajendran’s decision to represent the brand in Salinas.“Togo’s is a California staple, and we’re excited to have a presence again in Salinas, which is just one hour south of company headquarters in San Jose,” Togo’s Director of Franchise Sales and Real Estate John Dyer said. “The leadership team is especially thrilled to have Ehab and Saravan at the helm.
