Senior-service veterans Bart Wakeman and Brandon Moxam opened a TruBlue franchise in response to one of the most common questions they received from seniors.

Before they became TruBlue Total House Care franchise owners, Bart Wakeman and Brandon Moxam had been working with seniors in Winter Haven, Florida, with their other franchise brand, Assisting Hands Home Care. During that time, their senior clients routinely asked them if they could help with handyman repairs, senior modifications and other safety services.

The problem was that neither Wakeman nor Moxam was qualified to make house repairs themselves, nor did they have a trusted referral partner they could call. In that, the partners saw an opportunity to both provide the best possible service to their clients, and to start a new business venture.

They capitalized on both by opening their own TruBlue franchise.

“We were inspired to open this business not only because we saw a need to help people protect their homes, but because we saw a need to help seniors,” said Wakeman. “We realized there was a gap because people are often so focused on caring for themselves or their loved ones that the house itself is overlooked.”

For Wakeman and Moxam, TruBlue was the missing piece to helping seniors effectively age in place. The elderly population in America is rapidly growing, and advancements in telehealth allow doctors to send patients home with the medical equipment and care they need, limiting long hospital stays. Add to that with the fact that, according to a recent AARP survey, about 75% of Americans aged 50 and over would like to stay in their current homes or communities for as long as possible, and we’re seeing more Americans aging in place than ever before.

TruBlue is helping them do it more safely.

“We can fill the gap facing many seniors who are aging in place,” said Moxam. “Seniors have unique needs. Sometimes it’s a safety issue — they need a ramp, handrails or other modifications — and sometimes it’s just things like changing light bulbs or making a small repair. But many seniors don’t know who to call or who to trust.”

TruBlue has become the most trusted name in senior services not just because of the quality of services it provides, but because they employ a network of certified, reliable, professional handymen that seniors can trust in their homes. TruBlue franchise owners are required to complete the Senior Home Safety Certification program through Age Safe® America, so seniors can be confident that they’re getting the highest level of service from a trusted brand.

Wakeman and Moxam are among the latest in a series of new TruBlue franchise owners, as the brand is on pace early to reach its year-end goal of opening 40 new locations for a total of 100 units in operation to continue to fill the gap in services provided for seniors who are aging in place.
