Why Franchising Appeals to Millennials

A generation brimming with confidence and eager for opportunities to prove their capability, millennials turn to franchising because of its structured pathway to success.

Growing up, many people dream of being their own boss. They want to be the one who calls the shots and makes the money, but then reality hits—and many dreams stall when people realize the physical and financial toll of starting a business from scratch.

That ending, though, is reserved for those who don’t understand franchising. Franchising gives you all of the perks of being your own boss, yet with the backing of an operationally sound, tried-and-true business model.

Millennials are becoming increasingly drawn to franchising because of this. In fact, Forbes pointed out that one of the most appealing aspects of franchising to millennials is the idea of having a flexible schedule that allows for a better work-life balance where they aren’t required to spend every second of every day working.

While millennials may prioritize flexibility, that certainly doesn’t mean they don’t want success—as a generation driven by confidence, millennials are increasingly finding that owning their own business allows them to define what constitutes success for themselves. This drive is particularly applicable to franchising because franchisors have established the structure by chich success is achievable and are simply seeking those with the ambition to execute.

Teacher, meet eager student.

Perhaps the most obvious reason millennials are perfect franchise candidates, however, is their innate knowledge of technology. According to Franchise.com, 65% of millennials leverage mobile technology for businesses, a number that assuredly climbs when factoring in the generation as consumers, too. Suh is the reason why it makes sense for millennials to enter the franchising space: Since technology is what drives businesses today and without it a company will quickly get lost, who better to implement what consumers want than the generation who adapts to the myriad changes every day?

Franchising as a business opportunity is something most millennials are just being introduced to, but the idea behind it is something many have been subconsciously considering their entire lives. Millennials want to build their own success, and perhaps franchising will be the right outlet to pursue their desire to be their own boss, self-define success, and create a career of stability and growth.
