Although a lot has changed over the past couple of years, you can always count on one thing: People are going to go crazy for the Christmas season. The holidays are — bar none — the biggest season in the retail industry, and Christmas stores routinely pop up all across the country to cater directly towards the holiday spirit.

But the phenomenon of seasonal businesses isn’t just limited to the holidays. For every season, there’s an opportunity. And for franchisees who are interested in investing in a seasonal business, here’s a few of our favorites for the holidays and beyond.

Christmas Decor**

Christmas Decor, part of the Texas-based The Decor Group, has established itself over the past several years as one of the leading holiday decorating brands in North America. Although it’s become quite widespread, there are still a number of attractive territories available for franchising, with startup costs that are lower than many other comparable franchises. Christmas Decor specializes in light hanging, and after the Christmas season ends, Nite Time Decor provides year-round lighting services that keep the business going.

Shack Shine

  • Startup costs: $50,250
  • Units: 42

Shack Shine is another franchise that puts a strong emphasis on Christmas lighting, as a major home detailing service underneath the O2E Brands home service conglomerate. However, O2E also offers a number of franchising opportunities in other spheres, including 1-800-GOT-JUNK? and WOW 1 DAY PAINTING. Shack Shine is a strong brand for the Christmas season, but the overall opportunities are also worth exploring.

Pool Scouts**

A Virginia Beach-based pool cleaning and maintenance franchise, Pool Scouts thrives over the summer, but  the pandemic has proven that it’s a very viable option all year round. Pool Scouts reported an 81.6% increase in year-over-year revenue in 2021, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to push families outside, and the United States sees higher temperatures on average. Pool Scouts has since spread to eight states with further expansion targeted, and it could be the perfect time to jump on that train.

Mosquito Joe**

Most might think a company that focuses on eliminating mosquitoes, fleas and ticks would be limited to the warmer months, but that isn’t entirely true. There are still many parts of the United States, especially in the South, where mosquitoes can be a year-round concern. That means that Mosquito Joe can be a very profitable year-round business. Mosquito Joe has focused heavily recently in expanding into territories that have milder climates, meaning there are plenty of franchise opportunities in a number of different spots around the country.

Everything Christmas

  • Startup costs: $15,000
  • Units: 3

If you want to focus specifically on Christmas cheer, you could check out emerging Christmas brand Everything Christmas, which recently  started offering franchise opportunities. The company started in New York but has ambitious plans to spread across the United States, recently opening a new location all the way in California. Everything Christmas is a family-owned and operated business that offers a wide variety of Christmas-themed products, which could make it a big seller when the holiday season rolls around.
