American Sign Language-Centric Starbucks Location Opens in Washington D.C.

This new Starbucks location is the first to offer fluent communication in both English and American Sign Language.

Starbucks has announced the opening of a new location which specializes in American Sign Language. According to a recent article in Fast Casual, partners for this location are all fluent and wear special aprons that spell out the brand name in ASL. They also wear pins that indicate that they are proficient.

While sign language has a heavy emphasis at the store, the location itself is bilingual, with employees communicating in both English and ASL. This new Starbucks is located close to Gallaudet University, which specializes in providing education for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

At a pre-opening party, the Starbucks Foundation presented Howard Rosenblum from the National Association of the Deaf with a donation of $50,000.
