She saw her relationship with the company as more familial than businesslike, with every franchise owner willing to lend a helping hand.&nbsp;1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us.&nbsp;What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Patterson: I am originally from&nbsp;Argentina. My father has worked with the Shell company since 1993. In 1998 he had the opportunity to buy a Shell franchise, so we worked together with the family at that location growing up. 7 months ago, I moved to the U.S. and decided I wanted to start another business.&nbsp;1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?Patterson:&nbsp;Since I was around franchising growing up, I understood the value of leveraging the background and expertise of an existing company. Still, everything I had learned was from my father, so it was difficult to go out on my own and start for the first time. So the concepts of effort, consistency, dedication and conviction were present my whole life and I try to never lose these values in every project.
