To help meet the growing demand for Checkers products in the New York community, Rod Valencia recently opened Corona&#8217;s first Checkers restaurant at 38-06 Junction Blvd, Corona, NY on March 23. Valencia is no stranger to the QSR industry; he opened his first Dunkin Donuts in 1984 and has since grown his portfolio to over 20 restaurants with brands including Checkers, Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robins. &#8220;Checkers has been very warmly welcomed in New York because franchisees such as Rod have built and maintained our reputation for quality food and service,&#8221; said Jennifer Durham, Vice President of Franchise Development for Checkers &amp; Rally&#8217;s Restaurants, Inc. &#8220;With Rod&#8217;s experience in the market, we&#8217;re confident that our guests in Corona will enjoy the addition of Checkers to their community.&#8221; Checkers has continued to consistently unveil new locations across the crowded New York market thanks to its superior product and value, as well as its service-focused franchisees. Valencia&#8217;s Corona location will be his fourth Checkers restaurant in New York. &#8220;I first joined the Checkers team in 2009 because I wanted to open something in the burger segment, and I knew that Checkers had very good food,&#8221; Valencia said. &#8220;I have enjoyed growing with the brand, and hope to open my fifth location this year.&#8221; Checkers continues to add craveable menu selections and introduce daring flavors to its fans. Options such as Monsterella Stix, Cold Creations and the original Big Buford&#174; aim to bring the freshest ingredients and boldest flavors to hungry guests. The company continues to innovate, and remains true to its commitment to provide crazy good food at an exceptional value. &#8220;The Checkers franchise opportunity is different because the Company is the largest franchisee; we own and operate 40% of our system, which ensures both products and initiatives are tested before rollout to the franchise community.&#8221; Durham said. &#8220;This aligns us with our franchisees by putting our focus squarely on restaurant profitability and guest satisfaction.&#8221; Checkers continues to grow, with opportunities for ownership available in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, New York and Washington D.C., among other cities. The brand is coming off a highly successful 2014, in which they opened 35 new locations and crossed the 800 restaurant count mark. Checkers continued four straight years of positive system-wide comp sales in 2014, and the brand continues to grow, signing 65 new franchisees in the last two years. Checkers &amp; Rally&#8217;s entered 2015 with more than 80 restaurant sites approved for development in 2015, and in the first two months of the year, the brand has already approved 10 new franchisees.
