Terry earnesd his undergraduate in Business Administration and MBA from The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Worked in Healthcare Technology for 22 years.

Sherry is a licensed nurse with a background in urology and lab management experience in a urology lab. She also worked in hospitals and as a school nurse.

Tell us about your background.

I, Terry, worked for 22 years in the healthcare technology industry in the pharmacy software space. I ultimately ended up with McKesson Pharmacy Systems which was owned by McKesson Corporation. When I was laid off as a part of a management restructuring initiative in 2013, I began looking for other business ventures, which is how I found ARCpoint Labs.

Sherry has over 15 years of experience as a licensed nurse. She worked for a pediatrician, a school nurse, a urology nurse and finally as a lab manager. Sherry handles operations at our ARCpoint Labs location and I am responsible for sales and business development.

How did you hear about the brand and why did you choose to get involved?

I heard about ARCpoint Labs through a franchise broker. When I was laid off, part of my termination package included an outplacement service. They introduced me to ARCpoint and it stood out for two reasons. There was some overlap with what I did with in the healthcare industry and Sherry, who was a nurse and a lab manager for a urology practice, also fit in with ARCpoint’s business model. Between the two of us, ARCpoint was a good fit.

In addition to employer testing and screening services and DNA testing, we have a strong focus on clinical testing. We currently work with several medical practices to provide clinical and toxicology testing for their patients and we also see walk-in clinical patients. We are scheduled to be the first ARCpoint Labs to do Medicare annual exams and we are exploring additional opportunities related to the provision of clinical services. We are scheduled to begin seeing patients in October. Our initial focus will be on seeing patients at our location but we are considering seeing patients offsite at locations such as long term care facilities.

What ties do you have with your local community and how do you plan to serve the community with your new business?

We are members of the Shelby County Drug Free Coalition. Sherry has served on the baseball board and executive board of the Chelsea Youth Club. Sherry has also served on the Chelsea City Council’s Environmental Workgroup and has been a polling site supervisor during local, state, and national elections.  I have served on the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce’s Healthcare Committee.

What are some of the local businesses that you work with?

We work with many of the middle schools and high schools in Shelby County including the largest private school in the Birmingham area. We just signed with Shelby County School District which was a huge deal within the county: 14 Schools; between 4,000 and 5,000 tests each school year. We work with a number of other businesses including manufacturers, staffing services, construction companies and transportation companies. We also work with a number of public organizations including fire departments and municipalities.
