Joshua Tree Experts, the Pennsylvania-based home services franchise that offers tree maintenance, lawn care and pest control services, is experiencing a strong uptick in demand as spring and summer encourage lawn and tree growth and increased insect activity. For prospective franchisees, now is the perfect time to invest in order to be fully onboarded and prepared to hit the ground running at the start of next year’s busy season.
“Now’s a good time because we’re halfway through the year. If we start getting people in the door and they sign a contract with us, maybe in four to six months, we can get that onboarding going during the wintertime,” explained Joshua Malik, CEO of Joshua Tree Experts. “Then, by springtime next year, we’ve got them up and running, and they will be charging out the door. I think that’s going to be really impactful.”
Throughout the pandemic, many home services saw a spike in demand, and lawn care is no different. According to Green Industry Pros, landscapers saw an increase of over 40%. Further, the tree trimming industry alone is now worth nearly $30 billion.
Better yet, this value spikes in the warmer months. According to Malik, the brand is about 30% more lucrative in the warmer months than the winter.
During the spring and summer months, demand is high for all of Joshua Tree Experts’ services. Things like general tree care, pruning and removal services are going year-round. Tree and trunk spray services are typically done nine months out of the year, as are lawn care services. In terms of pest control, mosquito and tick-related services are at an all-time high for about five months of the year, but there are also quarterly pest control plans as well.
Malik added that the brand is open to franchisees who have already established a seasonal business that thrives in the wintertime and are looking for supplemental work during the warmer months. It is also a good fit for business owners who appreciate the ebb and flow of seasonal business without completely sacrificing year-round revenue opportunities.
“A lot of owners like that downtime, and a lot of people get into this industry because they like taking their winters off,” he explained. “Even if they’re not completely free, they have a chance to slow down. You get those three months to refresh, regroup and recharge to go back out hard for nine busy months.”
Joshua Tree Experts is looking to expand with a goal of signing five franchisees in 2022 alone and has developed a strong infrastructure and network of connections to support new franchisees. Joining an emerging franchise can be nerve-wracking sometimes, but Joshua Tree Experts continues to see growth year over year, maintains client retention and has the processes in place to support new franchisees in selecting their market and getting trained up.
