Today is the day when two great things that came together long ago in a triumphantly delicious fashion get their due. Yes, it’s National Cheeseburger Day.

This one is easy to celebrate. There are no holiday hassles, no stress of gift buying or family shenanigans with which to wrestle. You just go out and get a yummy cheeseburger.

MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes* is a great place to satisfy your hunger. They do burgers up right there with homemade, non-GMO bread and top-of-the line meat that is never frozen; it’s also 100 percent all-American beef. There also are no additives or preservatives to get in the way.

Ardag Tachian, the director of development at MOOYAH, says the better-burger brand never skimps on quality.

“It all starts with that great beef and, from there, we just keep adding the perfect blend of seasonings and great toppings, like our onion strings and sautéed mushrooms. And yes, cheese makes it even better.”

Tachian also notes that this is a good time to visit MOOYAH, not only because of National Cheeseburger Day, but also because its restaurants are taking part in the No Kid Hungry mission throughout September to help ease the problem of childhood hunger in this country.

“Come in for National Cheeseburger Day and also help us support efforts to end hunger,” Tachian says.

Angela Vega, the director of culinary and food safety at Back Yard Burgers, says the beloved burger should be celebrated every day. And Back Yard always starts with fresh, tasty beef. What happens from there?

“One of the few items to make a great burger better? A good slice of cheese,” she says.

But which cheese should mark the big day? A highly informal office poll reveals strong opinions about the proper cheese to crown the glorious burger.

Brie was a somewhat surprising favorite. These brie aficionados offered details, including serving it up with grilled onions and grilled pear slices. Another said the brie must be accompanied by avocado for maximum deliciousness.

Smoked gouda and bleu got several nods, and pepper jack and colby jack also were popular. A passionate, all-caps declaration went out to Irish cheddar, and feta and Swiss each got a few votes. Some people were very specific about their cheddars.

One person specified Merkts spreadable cheddar. Another fan evocatively declared: “I want a cheddar so sharp it could cut you.”

Get out there and celebrate, people.
