Starting yesterday Twitter launched Twitter Offers. The program is very similar to Groupon’s or LivingSocial’s deals; however, it is embedded in your Twitter timeline. How it works is very simple: An offer will appear in your timeline as an ad, but when clicked it will take you to a landing page to enter your credit or debit card information. Once your information is stored, any other offers you redeem will be paid using the same card. The introduction of this new feature allows Twitter to enter into retail and gives marketers a chance to see a clear ROI on promoted posts. As of now the offers function like any other promoted tweet but with an offer attached. Nathan Hubbard, head of Twitter Commerce, is quoted in Re/code saying, “Twitter is focused on introducing tools that can, where appropriate, turn those conversations into making transactions.” Select food chains and retailers will start promoting their offers on Twitter throughout the week in preparation for Black Friday. This period will make a good case study to see if customers are using Twitter for their Black Friday shopping. If this is successful, you can bet many other retailers and food chains will start taking advantage of Twitter Offers and capitalizing on turning social conversations into dollars.
