Threshold Brands Closes Out Excellent Year; Home Services Industry Set to Thrive in 2023
While many other businesses struggle this year, the multi-brand franchisor has continued to achieve and surpass its growth goals with 121 new units sold year-to-date.
Threshold Brands, the multi-brand franchisor behind fast-growing home service brands MaidPro, Men in Kilts, Patio Patrol, Pestmaster, USA Insulation, Plumbing Paramedics, Heating + Air Paramedics, Sir Grout, and Granite Garage Floors, is establishing itself as a massive player in the burgeoning home services market. Following a record-breaking year for the home services industry in 2022, Threshold Brands is now well-positioned to continue its impressive momentum in 2023 and beyond.
“This past year has been an exciting time for the Threshold Brands family,” said Ron Bender, chief growth officer. “The home services industry is thriving, and the Threshold Brands portfolio offers franchisees a clear and proven pathway to success in the space, with the ultimate goal of making their entrepreneurial dreams come true.”
In 2022, Threshold Brands signed 121 new franchisees across its system, including 33 new USA Insulation locations, 16 new Sir Grout locations and 15 new Men In Kilts locations. Existing franchise owners acquired 35 new territories in their original brand or another Threshold Brand. In addition to franchise growth, the multi-brand company added another brand to its portfolio with Granite Garage Floors, a franchise company that provides garage floor coatings for residential and commercial customers.
Bender points to several reasons for this upward trajectory. For one, the pandemic has led to homeowners spending more time at home, thus paying more attention to projects they’ve let slide around the house for too long. Customers want home services now more than ever, and they’re turning to trusted local businesses like those in the Threshold Brands family to get the job done. Thus, the home services market is expected to grow by $4.7 billion worldwide between 2021 and 2025.
“The COVID-19 pandemic showcased the importance of keeping our homes well-maintained,” Bender said. “Whether it be residential cleaning, pest control, or restoring tile and stone, Threshold Brands is there to ensure customers can rest easy knowing their homes are cared for by experts. This gives families that valuable time back to spend with their loved ones inside and outside the home.”
Similarly, this previous year saw the creation of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, intended to lower a range of costs incurred by American families, including guidelines specifically for lowering energy costs. In addition to experiencing decreased utility costs over time, American families will have access to “$14,000 in direct consumer rebates… to buy insulation, heat pumps or other energy efficient home appliances.”
The rebates both incentivize homeowners to take action and make changes in their homes and provide the break needed by homeowners who have intended to make these changes but have been barred by cost. The act is expected to prompt over 10 million projects. As homeowners work to implement these changes, home services professionals are being called on. For home insulation, plumbing and HVAC businesses like those under the Threshold Brands umbrella, it is an especially lucrative time.
As Threshold Brands establishes itself as a leader in this booming industry, the team has also continued to build out its support infrastructure for its growing roster of franchise owners. For example, this year saw Threshold Brands continue to develop an in-depth and data-driven marketing strategy.
“Our marketing funds are actually programmed into the cost of the franchise for each brand,” said Bender. “And while the brand has autonomy over how these funds are utilized, we also provide support with our dedicated marketing team and coaches. This means our franchisees don’t need to have any marketing experience of their own — we are there to ensure they get the word out in their community.”
Threshold Brands has also built out its financial support for franchisees this year, offering in-house financing so new owners can invest more in marketing, connecting with financing partners, offering conversion programs and more.
All of these efforts aren’t going unnoticed within the franchise industry at large. Just this year, multiple brands under the Threshold Brands umbrella have received national recognition. MaidPro was recognized in Franchise Business Review’s Culture 100 Awards based on its franchisees’ responses to an FBR survey regarding leadership, core values, honesty, integrity and overall support. Sir Grout, USA Insulation and MaidPro all received placements on Entrepreneur’s Franchise 500 Ranking, and Bob Vila ranked Men In Kilts as the number one best power washing company of 2022.
Threshold Brands also won the Franchise Innovation Award for Most Innovative Service Introduction, rewarded for its unique approach to bringing the Plumbing Paramedics and Heating + Air Paramedics franchise brands to market earlier this year.
Looking ahead, Bender says Threshold Brands is ready to keep the momentum strong in 2023, with the goal of building more awareness for the brands under the Threshold Brands portfolio and continuing to help the right candidates realize their dream of business ownership in a lucrative industry.
