In an interview with Home Health Care News, Sean Fitzgerald, president of TruBlue Total House Care, a 60-plus unit home maintenance and handyman franchise with a particular focus on senior services, talked about the impact that climate change has had on the home services industry. According to Fitzgerald, climate change is a factor that TruBlue, along with many other home care brands, is starting to consider more and more.

With a rise in extreme weather events, Fitzgerald said that TruBlue has seen a rise in business in affected areas. “Not having your home well maintained — with clean gutters, downspouts cleared out and sump pumps functioning properly — can have adverse effects,” he told Home Health Care News. “A lot of times seniors can’t do these things themselves, and their homes withstand something like a hurricane.”

Fitzgerald believes that TruBlue has only “scratched the surface” on the type of services it can offer related to climate change and will look to continue to innovate new ways to help seniors safely age at home.
