Eventually, she moved from San Francisco to Sacramento to be closer to her aging parents. As an owner of two residential care facilities in the area, Magpusao knew the functional side of the senior care industry, but it was her personal experience with her parents that showed her how truly complicated aging in place could be.“My mom had a fall and dislocated her knee, but her home was not set up for a wheelchair,” said Magpusao. “She has stairs to get in on both sides of the house and was very much living out in the country. After leaving a nursing facility, the home is often not equipped with what seniors need. Nothing is in place to make that a seamless process. My mom also had a handyman, and since she is older and trusts people out of the gate, he had overcharged her on a lot of work and left the job unfinished. There was clearly a gap there in services.”&nbsp;While looking for something better in the Sacramento area, Magpusao learned about TruBlue. Right away, Magpusao was not only impressed as a potential consumer, but also as a business-savvy entrepreneur.&nbsp;“We had been looking into expanding into another business to diversify our portfolio,” said Magpusao. “I had already left the corporate world, and when we discovered the TruBlue concept, we realized franchising could be a good step forward. We saw that there was a need for TruBlue amongst seniors looking to age in place, as well as busy families who needed somebody to help with smaller jobs around the house. We knew TruBlue could fit into a good niche in the area.”TruBlue offers a range of customizable, subscription-based services that customers can bundle, depending on their unique needs and their unique home. And while the subscription model serves as a key differentiator in the handyman industry, it’s the preventative maintenance within the House Care Plus plan that truly helps the brand stand out. The House Care Plus plan is preventative — a program in which TruBlue will come out once a quarter and focus on seasonal maintenance, such as changing air filters and testing smoke detectors.&nbsp;Magpusao officially opened her TruBlue Total House Care franchise in November of 2021 and just recently expanded to a second location in Sacramento less than one year later.“The fast growth can definitely be attributed to the need,” she said. “There are a lot of handyman companies out there that are just a Chuck in a truck — they are not necessarily licensed or background-checked. That allows TruBlue to really stand out. Our handymen are screened, background-checked and covered under TruBlue’s insurance, and we also have senior safety certifications.”Since starting her TruBlue business, Magpusao says the most fulfilling part has been providing&nbsp;<a href="https://1851franchise.com/trubluehousecare/how-trublue-total-house-care-is-working-to-solve-the-aging-in-place-crisis-2718610#featured">meaningful service</a> to her community. “This service is really close to our hearts,” she said. “We know that we are providing a much-needed service, and we know that we are helping people age more safely in their homes. I know how stressful it can be when your parents are going through something, struggling to find the right person to come into their home. Knowing that we can provide that peace of mind to our clients in a safe and reliable way really means a lot.”Magpusao’s success is certainly not an anomaly within the TruBlue system.
