From running a school bus contracting business to an auto parts store and a property development company, Matt Bryant has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. But after moving to Fort Collins, Colorado, a few years ago, he decided he wanted to further his career and accepted a corporate position as the transportation director for the local school district. Although he was promoted to Chief Operations Officer shortly after, Bryant knew corporate life wasn’t for him. When he discovered TruBlue Total House Care, the 80-plus unit handyman and home maintenance franchise focused on helping busy adults, families and seniors, that entrepreneurial flame came right back.
But, like many TruBlue franchisees, it was a personal experience that truly pushed Bryant to the brand.
“I’m currently working with my aging parents and watching the struggles they go through first-hand when it comes to aging in place,” said Bryant. “It was extremely eye opening for me to see how widespread this issue is.”
TruBlue is the only franchise system focused on ongoing home maintenance and handyman services for busy adults and seniors. The TruBlue Total House Care subscription program provides help around the home, both inside and out. Home maintenance for seniors includes ongoing services such as to-do list chores, handyman repairs and preventative home maintenance. As specialists, TruBlue franchisees are also able to perform Senior Home Safety Assessments and make those recommended safety modifications if needed.
“Watching my aging parents struggle with safety and security in their home, in addition to my love for handyman work, made this the perfect brand for me,” said Bryant. “My free time is always spent reconstructing something, whether that’s working on vehicles or helping my friends and family repair things around the house. I did my own basement remodel flooring for myself and others, and even built offices inside of buildings. I always like to involve myself in some type of construction project. I want to give back to the community, and with TruBlue, I can do that while also doing something I enjoy,” he said.
As a serial entrepreneur with plenty of experience starting a business from scratch, Bryant says he also recognized the value of joining a franchise system like TruBlue.
“It's great to start a business with a franchise instead of starting alone because there is so much support from corporate and existing franchisees,” said Bryant. “There is already a proven business model in place, as well. I felt more opportunity for growth with that support from corporate, especially with the marketing assistance and the fact that we already have a business plan in place.”
Bryant opened TruBlue of Fort Collins in March and hopes to give back to the community and eventually lead community projects to help aging seniors and low-income families. “I have a strong connection with this brand, and I’m really focused on giving back to the community in any way possible,” he said.
Looking ahead, Bryant aims to expand into another territory in Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming. “I have always had that entrepreneurial spirit, and it was the right time in my life that I felt ready to work for myself,” he said. “I also love the fact that I am giving back to the community and filling a void with a service we really need.”
TruBlue is actively seeking passionate franchise owners like Bryant in markets across the country. The brand has identified Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville and Naples, Florida, as well as Houston and Dallas, Texas, as key development markets.
The total investment estimate for a TruBlue Total House Care franchise ranges from $65,050–$91,400. To learn more about franchising with TruBlue, please visit https://trubluefranchise.com/.
