Chrissy Redd, director of brand development at Strategic Franchising — the premier franchise development company that offers aspiring entrepreneurs the opportunity to start a business in some of the hottest industries — has been franchising for more than five years. In time, she has accumulated a wealth of experience. And as a former adjunct professor, she is accustomed to sharing her knowledge.

Her advice to young professionals entering the franchising space is simple.

“You need to be ready for change at all times,” she said. “The one thing about franchising is there’s a very short window to know what you need to do and how you need to pivot. But when you see that something isn’t working, don’t take that personally. Take a look at it, brainstorm, figure out what a better solution is and attack that.”

She also has some specific advice for those who are underrepresented in the space.

“Don’t be afraid to be the first one in the room, especially when it comes to women and people who are diverse,” she said. “Sometimes, you may not see a reflection of yourself in the role, but don’t allow that to limit where you want to go and what you want to do.

“Don’t be afraid to be a trailblazer.”

1851 Franchise caught up with Chrissy to discuss her advice for young professionals getting started in the franchising industry, along with the challenges she faced early in her career and the role storytelling and humanity play in great marketing.
