Stephen Rodriguez has made a career out of serving others, predominantly in call centers for multiple brands. Most recently, Rodriguez was director of the corporate call center for The Cleaning Authority’s corporate office based in the Baltimore area. The brand’s leadership was so impressed with his success and high quality customer care that he was promoted to assistant manager of the franchise location in Columbia, MD. Just last month, he took the next step in his career and took over his own franchise location. Rodriguez, his partner and their three dogs made the trek across the country to takeover The Cleaning Authority of Southwest Valley. In just a month they have acquired 33 new customers, and he is working to make sure all of these new customers along with the loyal customers of the branch are getting the best service possible.

1851 spoke with Rodriguez to learn more about his background and how he became a franchisee with The Cleaning Authority.

Tell us a little bit about your background.

I have always worked in the customer service field because I really have a passion for providing excellent service to others. I worked as a credit counselor before working in the call center with The Cleaning Authority. I ran the call center for The Cleaning Authority for 12 years and my love for working with the brand took me to the next level--becoming a franchisee.

Why did you choose to become a franchisee with The Cleaning Authority? How did you learn about the brand?

When The Cleaning Authority’s leadership team spoke with me about overseeing the Columbia, MD office, I knew I wanted to stay with the brand and grow my career. From that managerial experience, I learned the realities of running a business first hand, instead of being in the call center trying to resolve issues via phone. I love to interact with customers and help them maintain their homes to be the best quality possible.

What were your perceptions of franchising before starting the process?

I think I’m more enamored with franchising now than ever before. The Cleaning Authority’s system is very supportive and there is no unhealthy competition between our franchisees. As I have gotten more involved as a franchisee, I find that others are very willing to help me be successful.

What were the most unexpected challenges of opening your franchise?
I was hesitant to move my entire life across the country and adjust to a new culture in the Southwest, but since arriving, I realized how beautiful it is here in Arizona and am really happy with the new office.
