Through a proprietary, hydrogen carbon cleaning process, HHO optimizes engine performance, increases fuel economy and reduces carbon emissions.

Jared English opened his first automotive shop, A-1 Automotive, in Metropolis, Illinois, after graduating from Nashville Auto Diesel College in January 2004. In 2018, the retrofitted florists building that housed his business for a decade and a half burned down. English was in the process of rebuilding A-1 in the freshly cleared footprint of his former business, when in March COVID-19 lockdowns began. So, with a little time off, English began looking at other business opportunities.
“I had a lot of time on my hands,” English said. “With my background in the automotive industry, I was able to see the problems that plagued engines on a daily basis, which were mainly caused by carbon buildup. The U.S. engine cleaning industry has always used very harsh chemicals that burn the skin and are bad for the environment. I knew there had to be a better way to do it. I was researching and came across hydrogen carbon cleaning, which is a practice used widely in the U.K. and Australia where environmental protections became more stringent quicker than here in the States. I started experimenting with this process, and over the course of months was able to see which components, generators, and service procedures maximized its effects.”
Now, in addition to A-1, English is also the founder and owner of HHO Carbon Clean Systems, a business that uses hydrogen gas and water to perform engine carbon cleaning on any gas or diesel engine.
The Hydrogen Carbon Cleaning Process
HHO Carbon Clean Systems can perform hydrogen carbon cleaning on any gasoline or diesel engine, whether mobile or static, removing carbon buildup on a wide range of engine components. The use of hydrogen carbon cleaning has been proven to reduce emissions and is recognized around the world as a clean energy solution. Whether the engine is old or new, the carbon cleaning system can produce significant results including restored performance, increased fuel economy and lowered emissions.
The process, which uses distilled water and a specialized electrolyte solution to make hydrogen gas that is then added to an engine’s combustion equation, increasing the flash speed of combustion, vaporizing carbon buildup into a gaseous state that then bonds with hydrogen molecules to be evacuated through the engine’s exhaust. “It cleans the carbon out and restores engine components to their intended factory spec — fuel mileage, performance — and it lowers emissions,” English explained. “Lowering emissions is the focus of the future. There are no harsh chemicals, so we can provide a service that is eco-friendly and not harmful to the environment. There are no chemical contaminants produced during hydrogen carbon cleaning, and increased fuel efficiency allows for less fuel to be burnt to achieve the same work. Now, with new emissions regulations being put in place, it is more important than ever to ensure that your engine is within its regulatory standard and operating at top performance.”
Hydrogen carbon cleaning technology can prevent carbon buildup if performed as part of a routine preventative maintenance schedule. When carbon builds up in the combustion chamber, it can increase the engine’s compression ratio, as well as the risk of hot spots forming. EGR passages and valves, as well as intake valves and manifolds, become blocked with carbon deposits. This can damage the engine and cause multiple drivability issues. The engine not only loses its power, becomes sluggish, and possibly stalls, but also experiences a significant loss in fuel economy.
Automobiles, Motorcycles and Farming Equipment
Everything from automobiles, motorcycles, pickups, grain trucks, spray rigs, tractors, and combines have all seen marked benefits from HHO’s services. For example, some gasoline-powered cars and trucks have noted gains between 30% to 50% in gas mileage. Diesel engines can gain greater efficiency still, with 40% to 70% not being uncommon. The gains are largely dependent on the vehicle’s engine size and the amount of carbon that has built up over time. The bigger and older the engine, the greater the gains to be had. These gains will be achieved with no invasive procedures or modifications to the engine.
When it comes to automobiles and motorcycles, removing carbon from the engine will allow for restored power and a smoother performance, as well as a quieter engine. Engine parts have tight tolerances. They do not work well when foreign particles are lodged between their moving components. That’s why engines are designed with multiple filtration systems — the air filter, oil filter, and fuel filter. Carbon buildup on the intake valves and ports will restrict airflow and disrupt the proper mixing of air and fuel, causing hesitation and performance issues. The same deposits can also occur in the combustion chambers, on top of the pistons and on piston walls, causing a slight increase in compression. This can result in engine knock which will not only hinder performance, but also possibly damage the engine. With HHO Carbon Cleaning Systems, customers can regain the power their car has lost over the years and significantly increase engine life by reducing wear and tear.
Farmers also see the benefit in having healthier, more efficient engines at a cost that pales in comparison to any other service work that would be performed on their equipment. HHO Carbon Clean Systems knows that farmers invest a lot in their machinery. Over time, the engines in the equipment will build carbon deposits on critical components, and an engine with excessive carbon buildup is at risk of breaking down, slowing down and developing other performance issues. HHO Carbon Clean Systems can clean an agricultural machine’s engine, unstick turbos, decrease DPF pressure, restore lost performance, increase fuel efficiency, reduce the wear and tear on equipment and make engines run like new. Along with fuel economy, local farmers report noticeable gains in horsepower and being able to accomplish equivalent work at a lower RPM.
Fleet Performance
For fleet business owners, making HHO Carbon Clean Systems a part of their preventative maintenance schedule can help prevent problems in the combustion chambers, turbos, DPF’s, exhaust ports, catalytic converters, sensors, inlet valves, fuel injectors and fuel pressure regulators of their vehicles. This can save a company thousands of dollars in the long run. Fleet owners can expect to see a 9% increase in fuel economy, a 12% decrease in cost of repairs and an 8% reduction in downtime when hydrogen carbon cleaning is added to the Preventative Maintenance Schedule.
HHO Carbon Clean Systems also offers a Fleet Tracking Program, which aims to reproduce the increased fuel economy, reduced maintenance cost and decreased downtime results that have been recorded across the rest of the country and the world. Participants in the program are asked to track these data points in exchange for hydrogen carbon cleaning service being performed on part or all of their fleet.
“We launched our first HHO Carbon Clean Systems location in June locally in Metropolis, Illinois,” said English. “We’re a small company, with only three people on the team right now. We didn’t want to just hire people and put them into vans — we wanted them to have skin in the game and help us grow through the process. We’re pretty proud of our concept, and we have a line of people ready to buy franchises when we’re ready to sell in January. We are excited to grow and to offer this service to more and more customers across the country.”
