After caring for his grandfather and helping him modify his home to age in place, Malone saw firsthand&nbsp;<a href="https://1851franchise.com/trubluehomeserviceally/trublue-franchisees-champion-fall-prevention-to-keep-seniors-safe-at-home-2730105">the challenges seniors face and the opportunities to make a difference</a>.“My grandfather’s health started failing, and he wanted to do everything he could to stay in the house he built,” Malone said. “We had to go into his house and make it senior-proof for him. I started wondering how many other people were going through that as well.”That personal experience, paired with his background in sports administration and sales, led Malone to TruBlue. He launched his business in March 2023 and has quickly become a trusted ally for seniors in his community.“Overall the business has been great. We hit a turning point coming up on a year ago where we exploded in popularity,” Malone said. “We are on target to almost double our growth from last year, partly due to our&nbsp;<a href="https://1851franchise.com/trubluehomeserviceally/trublue-and-habitat-for-humanity-team-up-to-help-veteran-regain-independence-at-home-2729581">partnership with Habitat for Humanity</a> and some nonprofits we’ve been working with. Our word of mouth has also been great.”Malone has forged strong ties with local organizations, including the&nbsp;<a href="https://asaneo.org/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=community-hero-franchisees-2730484" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Association of Specialists in Aging</a> and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.habitat.org/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=community-hero-franchisees-2730484" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Habitat for Humanity</a>, where his team has completed 30 to 40 projects in the past 10 months alone. For him, the work goes far beyond business.“The senior generation is kind of the forgotten generation,” he said. “Society puts them to the side because they are retired or aren’t in the workforce. TruBlue focuses on them, allows them to feel that sense of purpose and the sense that they aren’t alone. That is a lot of the reason we’ve continued to grow. Eighty percent of our customers are over the age of 65.”For Malone, the work has been life-changing: “It’s really been incredible — not only for the seniors, but for me as well. Seeing the difference this made in my grandfather’s life, being able to do that for others is amazing. It really leaves me speechless.”<h2>Benny Wink: From Corporate Leadership to Community Ally</h2>While Malone came to TruBlue early in his career, Wink brought more than 20 years of corporate leadership experience with him. With a degree in computer science, an MBA, and leadership roles at major companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield and Russell Athletic, Wink knew what it meant to build systems and drive results. But his heart was always in home improvement.“I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, which was modeled and fostered by my dad,” Wink said. “When I was 15, I designed a deck and privacy fence to go around our above-ground pool and my dad paid me and a friend of mine to build it. I’ve always enjoyed that kind of work, even while I pursued other professional paths.”After years in consulting, Wink decided it was time to align his career with his passion. We also sponsor that nonprofit. It’s a really good partnership where we can focus on people aging in place and help them get safer in their home.”For Wink, the joy comes in the little things, too. “I got a call the other day from a customer that had a drawer stuck,” he said. “Her medicine was stuck in the drawer and she couldn’t get it out! I went down there, met in the lobby and within a couple minutes we got the drawer unstuck. That’s fun.
