Breathing in unclean air can cause symptoms of headaches, fatigue, sore eyes, allergies or even cancer. But just treating the symptoms isn’t a long-term solution. Instead, you should focus on identifying and addressing the root of your illness. In a recent podcast episode of Healthy Home Hacks, Tim Swackhammer, founder and CEO of Mold Medics, discusses methods to help protect you and your family from breathing in harmful air and suffering from the above symptoms.

“In the situations where we smell just that musty type odor, whenever we walk into a place, in most cases, that’s going to be indicative of some sort of underlying issue going on,” said Swackhammer. “So, identifying that just with your nose can be really essential. And that's generally going to be one of the first indicators that people get that there may be a mold problem.”

Swackhammer discusses further signs of mold, like the visual component and how identifying mold from there can most likely lead to finding other mold areas. This can lead to issues that aren’t always apparent. Swackhammer tells Healthy Home Hacks some tips that can help prevent mold growth.

“We would much rather prevent an issue from coming up in the first place; it's going to be easier, and it's less expensive. It's going to be better for everybody in the long run,” said Swackhammer.

Some ways to prevent mold can be as simple as keeping a clean home and being aware of boxes and other materials that can get damp. For more information on how to keep your home and family safe from the effects of mold, listen to the full podcast here.
