Checkers has chosen Baltimore as the next site for expansion as the Tampa, Florida-based chain hopes to open 70 new locations in the area. The brand currently has four sites in the area that are either under construction or in lease negotiations.
The goal is for the brand to open five new stores in the next year, with 10 per year beyond 2016. There are currently 14 open Checkers in the Baltimore area.
“We have more capacity to grow in markets where we already are than in markets that we’re not,” Durham told the Baltimore Business Journal.
Facing stiff competition in the industry, Checkers is looking to their franchisees to help grow the brand.
“You have to love fast food, not personally necessarily, but love the environment,” she said. “It’s incredibly fast-paced and very competitive.”
The Baltimore market isn’t the only area tapped for potential, as the company is also planning growth in Chicago, Houston and Philadelphia.
