The Kansas City Star: Mosquito Joe Sees Impressive Growth In the Kansas City Area

Mosquito Joe franchisee David Maginness wants locals to know the brand is here to protect against pests.

Mosquito Joe of Johnson County has been open for business for two years now, thanks to owner David Maginness. The company has been growing at an impressive rate since its inception in 2010 -- today the franchise has 105 franchisees in 27 states. And according to Maginness, there's been a lot of local interest and growth, too, especially as mosquito-borne illness concerns are raised.

“We’re not building our business off of fear that someone is getting a disease. We’re building it off of if someone is getting bitten, killing those mosquitoes,” he said.

Even so, a lot of people have asked about Zika, especially women who are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant. But Maginness says his biggest challenge is making sure consumers know Mosquito Joe is here help.

Although outdoor pest services for biting bugs are well established in the East and South, they are relatively new in this area, he said. So far, so good.
