When frustrated parents of restless students first reached out to <a href="https://1851franchise.com/awatfit/executive">Richard Decker, AWATFit’s CEO</a>, they suggested that his trucks might help fill the void that virtual PE classes couldn’t meet. Now, Decker and some of his franchisees are training groups of five to 20 students outside their homes or in the community with their trucks.“Parents who are clients of mine came to me asking if I would be open to training their kids,” said Decker. “Virtual PE can be a boring regime, and parents want to keep their kids active and have an outlet to burn off some energy.”Decker notes that these weekly training sessions have also been vital in helping student athletes stay in shape, and the sessions allow them to safely train together while their sports seasons are cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic.“We have a few basketball teams we’re training, but we’re positioned to do all kinds of athletic training — baseball, football, soccer, etc.,” Decker said. “Because we’re able to do everything outside we have a safe way to keep the teams together and active.”To keep students engaged and on their toes, Decker says the brand has altered some of the usual regimens AWATfit does with its older clients. And because the trucks are fitted with equipment that students wouldn’t find in their traditional PE classes, they’re able learn different routines they might not have been able to experience before.“Kids have shorter attention spans and can get bored easily, so we have to keep things quick-paced and in short bursts — we lead students through 15–20 circuit workouts, and that really confuses the muscle groups,” Decker said. “This is more like athletic training than a regular gym class. They’re doing pull ups on the side of the truck and getting excited to do bungee runs. You have to have fun with it.”AWATFit isn’t just helping kids stay active, it’s also introducing them to exciting new ways to stay engaged with fitness — something Decker says is key to teaching them how to lead a healthy lifestyle.“It’s great because they’re now starting to learn a healthy lifestyle rather than just going to gym class,” said Decker. “Exercise doesn’t have to be monotonous — we’re introducing kids to the idea that they might like it.
