Sacramento Business Journal: Dairy Queen Feels California Capital and Surrounding Region Ideal for Growth

The brand hopes to open 15 to 20 Grill & Chill units in the Sacramento area.

Dairy Queen Grill & Chill®, the new concept launched in 2002, plans to establish the 75-year-old brand in the Sacramento region of California.

“We feel California in general is a strong opportunity state for us," Jim Kerr, vice president of development at International Dairy Queen®, told the Sacramento Business Journal.

Dairy Queen hopes to open 15 to 20 Grill & Chill stores in the Sacramento metropolitan area, which will include an open-air grill and artisan-style sandwiches. Kerr aims to open one new location in the Sacramento area by the end of the year; he is considering real estate in Roseville, Rocklin, Folsom, Rancho Cordova and Natomas. Kerr believes he will see a great deal of success in the Sacramento area due to nostalgia of the internationally recognized brand.
